This is probably the easiest recipe we will ever put up on our channel! This is a simple, fun Homemade Treat recipe for your dog that anyone can make! All you need to get started is the following:
- A few Apples
- Cinnamon (optional)
- A knife (kids ask your parents for help)
- a Cutting board
- a Cookie sheet
- a cookie cooling rack (optional)
- Some dogs to test your treats 🙂
First we are going to start by slicing and coring the apples. If you have an apple slicer this will make things much easier, but if not, you can do the same with a knife. You want to make sure to remove all of the apple seeds, as to many seeds can be bad for your dog!
Next, cut the apple into very thin slices. I would say less then 1/4 of an inch. Try to make them all the same size so they will cook evenly. Once you are done slicing your apples, layer them on top of a cookie drying rack (or on the cookie sheet), and then place that on top of your cookie sheet. Next you can sprinkle the apples with a touch of cinnamon (this is an optional step)
Notice, I did not mention preheating the oven? This isn’t necessary since we are going to put these into the oven on the lowest setting. Place the cookie sheet of apples into your oven, and set your oven at 175 Fahrenheit. Now comes the hard part, waiting 5 – 6 hours for the apples to be done!
After your 5 – 6 hour wait, the apples will be nice and dehydrated into chips! Some of them may be crunchy, and some might be a bit more chewy. If you want them crunchier, leave them in a bit longer. The apple dog treats are not only good for your dogs, but you can eat them too! It’s a great snack for camping and hiking!
To store them, we put them in a Ziploc bag. As long as they have been dried long enough, they will last for quite a while! Of course, ours are usually gone within a few days!
