It’s time for another DIY Dog Treats video! Today we are making Apple Cinnamon Donuts for Dogs!  We put it to a vote on Twitter, Apple Spiced vs Pumpkin Spiced, and the Pawdience choose Apple!  So let’s get to it!

DIY Dog Treats Apple Cinnamon Donuts

Ingredients

3 Cups of Whole Wheat Flour
1 1/2 Cup of Oat Flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 Fresh apple (or 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce)
1 Egg
1 Cup Water (room temperature)
2 Tbps Coconut Oil (the liquid kind)

Directions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, oat flour, and cinnamon.  In a small bowl mix together the apple, egg, water, and coconut oil.  Once it is all mixed, slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. The dough should not stick to your fingers.  If it does, add a touch more flour.  If it’s too wet, add a touch of water.

Once you get your dough perfect, flour your surface and then roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thick. This is where the adjustable rolling pin comes in handy! Now take your donut cutter, and cut out your donuts! Place them onto your baking sheet lined with parchment paper, or a silicone liner.  Bake for 25 – 30 minutes. If you want them to be extra crunchy, turn your oven off after they are done baking and just leave the donuts inside to cool.

Once the donuts are cooled you can feed them to your dogs, or you can get creative and frost them! We use Fido’s Royal Icing to frost ours.  You just mix the powder with water and that’s it!  You can also add powdered food coloring to the frosting for even more fun!  After we frosted ours, I sprinkled a few of them with a bit more cinnamon for some more color.
