As many of our long time readers and viewers know, Oakley is our rescue dog. Sometimes, when you rescue a dog, you don’t necessarily know what their past has been like. What we do know for sure about Oakley, is that she was abused for many years before she found a safe home, and then eventually found our home. Oakley is a high anxiety, high stress dog. This can be very dangerous because Oakley has also bloated twice in the past year. One of the main reasons for bloat is stress. Because of this, we are always willing to try new things to help keep her calm in situations that we know will cause her stress, such as going to the vet, meeting new people, and even getting brushed and groomed.

now-pets-logo So for about the past month we have been using NOW® Pets Pet Relaxant dietary supplement on days when Oakley might be put in a situation that will be a bit more stressful on her. NOW® Pets Pet Relaxant is formulated to promote relaxation and contentment during changes to the daily routine, which can include separation, travel, motion sickness and/or tension. We give her two tablets twice daily and I have noticed a difference in her behavior. It’s coat blowing season for huskies and I knew it was getting to be time to start working on blowing out Oakley’s coat. Normally this is a huge process with her. We have try to work as fast as we can to not stress her out. I gave her the NOW® Pets Pet Relaxant and it really seemed to help keep her calm while blowing out her coat. Usually we can work on her for about 10 minutes and then she starts doing the scream (you know the husky howl but it sounds like they are dying). This time, I worked on her for almost 30 minutes before I knew it was time for her to take a break. She only made a few peeps of noise in that time. I filmed a short video of her while doing her most recent grooming session, and you can see she is much more calm them normal. This may not seem like a big deal to some, but when you are dealing with a dog that has constant anxiety and stress, this was a big deal to me! I honestly can’t wait to give NOW® Pets Pet Relaxant a try when we go on our next long road trip!

Another thing many of you know about our Oakley girl is she has a lot of joint pain. Part it is her age, part of it is arthritis, and part of it is possibly because of injuries in her past homes. Regardless, she does have a hard time moving sometimes, and giving her a Joint Supplement is part of her daily routine. For about the past month we have been giving her 2 tablets of the NOW® Pets Joint Support twice a day. NOW® Pets Joint Support is formulated to help alleviate occasional discomfort associated with routine daily activity. I have noticed that getting up and laying down seems to be a bit easier on her. She still moves really slow when doing it, but part of me thinks that she is so used to having to do it so slow that it has become a habit. The nice thing is, she doesn’t wince and cry as much when she does it!
